When Peter and Monique Rana opened New Zealand's first BodyTech in Mt. Eden in 1997, it provided excellent customer service, fully personalised training, systemised member counselling, and the most high-tech equipment on the market.
U.S-born Peter already had extensive experience in the fitness industry. In May 1986 he had opened the first BodyTech in New York's east end. The 1,500-member gym soon became the most successful fitness centre in the East Hamptons - attracting dozens of celebrities including Bianca Jagger, Calvin Klein and John F Kennedy as well as professional athletes. Self Magazine rated it as one of the "Top 50 Fitness Clubs in USA" and Vogue chose it as "Everyone's gym of Choice for Personal Training". In September 1992, Club BodyTech opened in Miami, Florida, in time for the biggest season in the history of South Beach's famous Art Deco District.
Four years after BodyTech first opened in Mt Eden, it expanded its services by opening a purpose-built facility nearby which was designed without compromise to functionality or quality. The BodyTech Fitness and Spa in Normanby Rd included an exercise studio for Chi Gong, Tai Chi and Yoga, a crèche, tennis court, 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, steam, spa and Day Spa. BodyTech also worked with an on-site physiotherapy practice to offer members specialist rehabilitation.
Public demand later led to three more Supervised Fitness Gyms being set up - BodyTech Ascot Park in Greenlane, BodyTech The Viaduct and BodyTech Smales Farm in Takapuna.
In January 2011 BodyTech Fitness and Spa relocated from Normandy Rd to a state-of-the art, new facility at 8 Nugent St which focuses on what we do best - time-efficient supervised fitness programmes. Our new facilities include more showers, digital lockers, better temperature control and a more private pool area as well as saunas and steam rooms. New equipment and services include Pilates reformers, Hoist and Ivanko free weight equipment and Roc.it machines, BSDI fitness assessment, and Bodymetrix ultrasound body composition software.
